Social Media

While almost a month into 2010, there is no question that digital marketing continues its upward trend. What most people have realized is that compared to traditional marketing and public relations efforts, digital moves fast.

The difference between social media and your typical press release or media kit is that social media requires a willingness to engage. This type of interaction allows for a more interactive relationship with both the company and the client.

What also differs is that social media never stops. While an agency’s commercial will run a 60-second spot for a six-week period then it is over, social media requires much more interactive attentiveness than traditional media.

In the end, staying on top of the upcoming trends with social media can prove as an effective way to reach and engage with your target audience.

Some of these trends for the new year being:

  • Mobile Computing – social is becoming increasingly mobile
  • Digital Interactive Experiences – more video content through social sites for increased interaction
  • The Interactive Story –people will always find a way to tell their stories online whether it’s through Flickr, Vimeo or YouTube, bloggers and online communities will continue to engage wider audiences with their conversations

2010 will be the year that social media filled technology is responsible for more content consumption than ever before. The trick for marketers is to start getting on the leading edge of these trends, rather than waiting for them to emerge.
